Dr. Sophia Awadia is the founder and lead optometrist of Yonge Eyes Optometry and Vision Therapy in Toronto, ON. She was born and raised on the East Coast of Canada. She holds a master’s degree in vision science and a doctorate in optometry from the University of Waterloo. Dr. Awadia is an associate of the Optometric Extension Program Foundation and a member of the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. She is a published author on myopia research and has given numerous talks and presentations to schools, local groups, and other health professionals.
Dr. Awadia enjoys running, snowboarding, and exploring Toronto with her two children.
Upon receiving her Doctor of Optometry degree from SUNY College of Optometry in New York City, Dr. Emun extended her stay there to complete a residency in Pediatrics & Infant Vision. She is passionate about helping children achieve their best visual potential to help them perform their best in and outside of the classroom. Through her residency she gained clinical proficiency in myopia management (slowing the progression of myopia in children) and is excited to discuss the different options for her patients.
During her optometry degree, clinical rotations through Woodhull Hospital, Ezra Medical Center and NYU Student Health Center equipped her with the clinical experience to effectively treat and manage patients with a variety of ocular conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, dry eye disease, glaucoma and cataracts.
Dr. Emun can perform eye exams in English and Tigrinya and is committed to providing high quality eye care to all her patients. She welcomes new patients of all ages and demographics! Dr. Emun is a member of the Ontario College of Optometrists and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Emun likes listening to podcasts, trying new restaurants and exploring her neighbourhood with her family.
Dr. Antonia Sarantopoulos grew up in Toronto, ON and completed her Bachelor of Science, Honours degree at Queen’s University. She obtained her Optometry Degree in Boston, MA at New England College of Optometry (NECO).
During her training in the United States, Dr. Sarantopoulos had exposure practicing within a variety of optometric settings allowing her to grow her skillset in a wide range of specialities such as ocular disease management/treatment, specialty contact lenses, and binocular vision.
Before returning back home to Toronto, Dr. Sarantopoulos worked in Washington D.C. She is board certified to practice in both the United States and Canada.
In her spare time, Antonia enjoys travelling, cooking and spending time with friends & family!
Dr. Kasthuri Krishnaratnam grew up in Scarborough, Ontario. She graduated with distinction from Toronto Metropolitan University with an honours degree in Biomedical Science. She then obtained her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo, graduating with distinction.
During her studies, she completed her disease rotation in rural Manitoba by performing ocular disease exams, post-op follow-ups, emergency eye exams and observed surgical procedures. Here she had the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the management of ocular diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, dry eyes and more. She has also worked in a primary care clinic in Waterdown, Ontario, where she was able to expand her clinical skills in dry eyes and glaucoma management.
During her optometry program, Dr. Krisnaratnam volunteered on an optometric mission trip to the Philippines with VOSH to provide eye exams, glasses and ocular health screening to those who had no access to vision care. She was also the Marketing and Communications Director for the Canadian Association of Optometry Students and VP of the National Optometric Student Association focusing on advancing visual health within minority and underserved communities.
Dr. Krishnaratnam has a special interest in the areas of myopia control, dry eye management and contact lenses. In her spare time, she enjoys travelling, drawing, watching TV and spending time outdoors.
Sareena joined the Yonge Eyes team as our Vision Therapist in June 2021. After growing up in Vancouver and Malaysia, Sareena moved to Toronto in 2010 and completed her undergraduate degree for Early Childhood Studies at Ryerson University. For several years Sareena worked with children in various settings including before and after school programs. She began her Vision Therapy journey in 2019 and has grown passionate about supporting the neuro-visual development of young people ever since.

When she isn’t in the Vision Therapy room, Sareena enjoys spending time with her family and her puppy Beauregard. She loves gardening, trying out new restaurants in Toronto and playing Dungeons and Dragons!
